1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
I took a road trip with just my girls, two of them.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Let's see. I meant to relearn "The Walrus and the Carpenter." I did that. This year I've decided to memorize a Shakespeare sonnet each month.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
no.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
no.
5. What countries did you visit?
this one.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
inner joy.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 26 was my 25th reunion. It wasn't, like, amazing, but it was pretty fun and I'm glad I went.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I painted six pictures.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Er, not conquering my back problem, I guess.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
just the same old thing.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
my new black boots. They were only 60 dollars and are made of awesome.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
my girls went out and got jobs for themselves, and have done well at them.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
the appalling know who they are.
14. Where did most of your money go?
gas, food, and the dog, well, the vet.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I wish I could think of something that sounds super. Seeing Monticello was pretty great. And going back to Kansas City.

with my family, just being a mom

nah.

House? M*A*S*H, as well. And Psych, and definitely Pushing Daisies.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
yes.
24. What was the best book you read?
I don't know. I read a lot, but I don't read deep. I spent the year with British (and some American) cozies, mostly.

a new bookcase.
27. What did you want and not get?
to retain the life I chose for myself. and more bookcases.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was, and am, 43. I think we had sushi? It wasn't a great day, really.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
getting my way.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
hm. kind of a sharp, post-modern, streamlined sort of thing. same as usual.
32. What kept you sane?
my children.

Prop 8, and whatever else attempted to interfere with people embracing life and each other.

my mom

it really can just suck for no good reason.
